June 2004 Trip to Ann Arbor, MI
Part 2
Sunday, 13 June 2004
We began this day by driving to downtown Valparaiso. We took pics of the Porter County courthouse there and then took our 3 mile walk.
Highlights of the walk were the Botanical Garden and many beautiful old Victorian homes. We crossed a railroad track a couple of times and saw another couple walking with 2 small terrier dogs.

After our "free" breakfast in the lobby of the Hampton Inn, we headed down the road to our next county, LaPorte County, LaPorte Indiana.
Knox, Indiana, the county seat of Starke County came next.
Plymouth, Indiana holds memories for Michael, whose grandmother lived there on Garro Street. We took some pics of the house, the school up the street, and then walked to town, where we shot some pics of the Marshall County Courthouse, which is under renovation. Nice scaffolds, eh?

We went from there on down to Warsaw, Indiana where we shot its courthouse and some streetscene pics. |
|
We stopped for the evening at Nappanee, at a charming Bed & Breakfast called The Victorian. We checked in there and then headed right out for a sumptious feast at Amish Acres. There, we had chicken, turkey, dressing, potatoes, green beans, bean soup, rolls, ... you get the idea. Dessert? You bet! Michael enjoyed their cherry pie and I had blueberry pie!
Our night at The Victorian was wonderful. Not only were we taken care of for our basic needs, but we were treated to extra-special treatment, as well. On our bed, were snacks and hot water in a thermos for tea & cocoa.

We awoke early at The Victorian and sneaked out for our morning walk. We went all around the town, up and down the tree-lined streets,
We returned and got cleaned up for breakfast. The shower was hot and strong and the soap very sweet and soft. Loved it! Then we headed down for a most delicious breakfast consisting of a baked apple with whipped cream, lemon poppyseed cake, freshly-squeezed orange juice, sausage, a delicious quichelike thing which was served with maple syrup and raspberries. AND a chocolate cream-cheese muffin! How delicious it all was!
The whole house is decorated in beautiful Victorian decor. There's no smoking in the house, and everything was spotlessly clean and immaculately kept.
We WILL be going back there to visit Vickie and Bruce!
